Pottery Class-March

We have done a lot of traveling and local tours but the bases offer amazing classes.  Everything from Japanese language classes, to Japanese art, to doll making, basket weaving, sewing etc.
I signed us up for a dragon vase class.  3

Wednesdays from 5-8.  Caroline opted out as she wanted the house to herself for a few hours a week.  I can't blame her. The house is very small.  So it was just Bill, Patrick and I.  We would go for dinner afterwards.  We were tired but it was worth it.

This is our teacher Jorge.  He was born in Peru from Okinawan parents.  He came to Okinawa just to learn the famous Okinawan pottery skills. Now he is known throughout Japan.  For the vase, we just built the dragon step-by-step.  He made the vases as that would have taken forever for us.

Patrick was not always focused on the dragon.  He made several sculptures independent of the dragon project.  One was a human laying prone.  He named the sculpture, "Autopsy."  The teacher thought he showed a lot of natural talent.

By the end of the second class that it is coming together...

After I saw the next photo, I scheduled myself a color job.  I had been so busy at work that I was not keeping up with my hair, nails etc.

Finally!  We are thrilled with the final result.

This one is mine.

Patrick's...

Bill liked the classes so much that he signed up for a real pottery class in April, 3 Saturdays.  He is now "graduated" and can use the mud room whenever he likes.  He looks like a pro right?

So far he has made three mugs and a saucer.  He found out that the pottery shrinks when it is fired so his tall mug shrank to a short mug.  I loved them and they are proudly displayed in the house.
