Caroline's Photography Class-Sundays in March

There are a ton of really cool classes that you can take on the bases here.  Caroline is taking photography class.  Bill, Patrick and I are taking pottery classes.  I will post our pottery classes after our first project is fired.  It is really incredible.
On the the third week, the class goes on a field trip to experiment with everything that they learned.

They went to to the golf course/restaurant on the air force base.  The teachers did a quick review before we went to the golf course.  I learned a lot in just that ten minutes.  When we got to the golf course/restaurant I could see why they chose this place.  I would have taken shots of the view from the golf course.  The students were focusing on the lines, contours etc.  I can see that caroline will learn a lot.  I saw things totally differently after just ten minutes.
Caroline is getting advice from her teacher.

Here is the view from the golf course.  I told you that I would go for the view...

Caroline was "focused" on other things.

Here are some of Caroline's shots.

This is an ordinary bench.

Caroline is signed up for the intermediate class to start in April.  She has already learned so much.  The teachers warned their students that they better never catch them using the "auto" setting on their cameras.
Now Bill has some competition.  Caroline can tell him, "One of us has taken a photography class!"

St. Patrick's Day-March 17

I had to work at the shop on St. Patrick's Day.  I got off work about 2 pm, ran home and picked up Bill.  I wanted to go exploring because the weather was beautiful!
There is this one road I pass a lot and have always wanted to know what was at the other end.  I found out in Pottery Class (to be posted, so cool!) that there is a beach down there that is very pretty.  So, we hoped in the car.  Now that the kids are old enough and don't want to be around us, we are out of here!
We just got to the beach...

We climbed up a path because it was there and found a wonderful view.  We sat here for quite a while and just relaxed.  The wind was perfect and the sound of the ocean was peaceful.

But, I was dying to get down and explore the rocks on the beach below.

Bill took a great picture of this guy fishing off the cliff.

I will show some shots of the area as we headed down to the beach.  Bill is usually the photographer.  As you may recall, he likes to remind us that, "one of us was a fine arts minor."  --yawn--  I am just glad that I don't have to carry the camera.  But those of you who know me, know that I have to have some control.  There are shots that I want for the blog that I have to take myself.  Most of the time, I let him have the camera, but sometimes I have to do it myself.

Doesn't this look amazing?

Heading down to the beach.

More from the fine arts minor... Cute though.

These kids were so cute running and squealing around in the waves.

I heard that beach is great for "sea glassing."  I never heard of sea glassing until I moved to NY back in 1987.  The New Yorkers raved about finding shards of glass that had been tumbled smooth after years rolling in the waves.  At the time I thought, "We call that trash in the south."  And ya'll call us dumb.  But I learned to love it.

My source was right, I found quite a bit of sea glass.  Here I am digging around the shore.

While Bill....

I always say that Bill dresses like it is October and he is heading to the Officer's Club.  No matter where we live, where we are going, or what month it is.  He always wears the "Officer-wear" uniform: button down polo, belt, chinos and full shoes.

So he stayed on the rocks while I explored.

I wish I could share how the waves sounded against the rocks. The wind was just right.

You can see that the water here is crystal clear.

The beaches have a ton of coral all over the place.  It makes for great snorkeling too.

I had another place to explore.  I heard about this huge warehouse store that imports from all over the place.  It is like our gift shop but much bigger.  The shop was about 10 minutes from the beach so we headed over.  We pass quite a bit of fields in this area.  There is always the ubiquitous drink machine.  There is a drink machine of some kind literally every 100 yards or less not matter where you are.
But don't look for too many sugary sodas.  They have tea, water coffees, and coke zero.

Here is the entrance to the shop.  The shop was really cool.  We could have spent an hour in there.  Bill was getting hungry so we lasted about 30 minutes.  Plenty of time to decide that we were coming back with lots of yen!
(Bill would like me to note that he did not take any of these pictures...not up to his standards--double yawn).

Here is some of the stuff that is inside...

I spent a lot of time wishing that I could show people that I know this shop.  It was really fun.
I was thinking of my brother Joe and his wife Laura here...

Bill found the drums and played them all.

The sun was going down so we decided to go grab some dinner and call it another great day.  This is shot from the road right outside the shop.  There is a surfer in the waves, can you spot him?

Great day!
